Wanting to start my own computer repair business? Well, I have seen many try and many fail. But most of the flops I have seen were because the people didn't care about their customers. Problems with Best Buy/Geek Squad Computer Repair? Okay, I have had sooo many problems with bestbuy. There have been three occasions were they screw up. 1) Bought a Gateway Tablet PC from them and my pen malfunctioned so I took it in for the pen to get replaced and they wouldnt; we paid them $300+ for a performance service plan and they wouldnt replace something that costs $50. 2) Needed a replacement battery and I only get one battery replacement under the PSP. They send me the wrong battery and they deny it despite me going into the store and showing them it does not fit. Again they screw up and I had to pay up an extra $126 to replace something that they should have replaced. 3) Finally, I send my computer in for repair, the glass coating on the LCD screen needs replacing and the hinge needs tightening. They send it back and the screen starts clicking, the hinge cover comes loose, the cheap bezel discolors in a week, the keyboard comes back with a lot of flex. They create more problems. Has anyone else had this many problems?

Computer Problem Pt. 2 - HARD COMPUTER REPAIR? Ok, so here's where I have left off from. I had a computer problem only yesterday, and I (well, the Yahoo! Community did...) solved the problem by changing the PSU. I had a 450W in, but I replaced it with a 250W and Kapow! it fires into life! I managed to reformat the HDD I had in (80GB) and after installation, put in a 200GB HDD as a slave. It worked fine, and I started installing all my old programs and stuff, chuffed that I have my old desktop back working. I turn it off for the night, and once I got back from work at 12.15pm today, I pushed the power button and nothing happened. I couldn't believe it! I thought that the PSU had blown, so I went and replaced it with a 230W PSU... but nothing has happened. I know its not the PSU because there is a green light that glows when power is getting to it, and come on, it was working yesterday! And I know its not the actual power switch, because I thought it was that yesterday, but I changed it and it never solved the problem, so when I changed the PSU and put the old one back in, it turned on. Its a new Graphics card (less powerful, but now the graphics actually work...) that's in it, a new P4 2.4Ghz CPU, new Abit BE7 motherboard, a formatted HDD and a now formatted slave HDD. This is the 3rd PSU I have put in it, but as you can tell I don't think there was anything wrong with the old PSU... I just can't put my finger on what has went wrong, as nobody has touched this presumably fine working PC. Please note that I have scrapped the 450W as it was the problem before. I still have the 250W and I currently have the 230W installed. I have tried turning it off and disconnecting from the power source for a while. Can anyone shed light on this situation? When I changed the PSU, I dont mean I thought that I needed less wattage, its just what was available to me at the time. I dont run that much.

Computer warranty repair Problem? Okay, i have posted this question before but i really didn't get the answers i was looking for. long story short... I bought a Gateway notebook on April 10th this year from Best Buy. On May 12th, the notebook developed a problem with the LCD screen where the backlight wouldn't work when on battery power. so i called gateway and they walked me through some stuff and determined that the backlight cable needed to be replaced. they sent me a box to return the notebook. i sent it in. they recieved my notebook on may 19th. it is now june 23rd and i've called about 2 dozen times and have gotten the same answer. i even called their so called "cooporate" number and they gave me the same crap as well. as of yesterday, they say it's going to be another, yes another 7 to 10 business days which is what they've said 3 times already. My question is, what is the industry/legal standard for warranty repair? if there is one. i've asked for a new replacement and they won't do it. Okay, here’s what they have been saying from about business day 5. The part that my notebook needs is on back order and they are waiting for it to arrive from the great country of China. I have been told several different times that the part should be here on x date. So I call back on that date and they are like, “oh no. It’ll be here on this date.” I am waiting for a part that they should have had in stock in the first place. That is my beef. They can’t give me a straight answer on when it will be in. They keep brushing it off to the supplier. I haven’t looked at the warranty in depth as the new notebooks come with that info on the notebook in a PDF file. Lot of good that does me when I have to send it in. I’m sure I can get a copy off the gateway website. But it states that they can only replace the laptop with a comparable unit only if gateway feels it’s un-repairable. Of course that is a very broad term. I just looked at the warranty from gateway and no where does it indicate a time frame that warranty repairs will be done. it does however say that gateway will do one of the following: 1 replace with a new or refurb part, 2 replace entire unit with equal value unit or 2 refund less depreciation. Of course, all of theses options are at Gateway’s discretion and there is no way for us to know what determines how a case is handled. Really crappy. And yes, I will never ever buy a gateway product again. I will tell everyone I know not to buy a gateway. I wouldn’t even wish my worst enemy to buy a gateway. I have already purchased a Toshiba and I love it to death. Not because it works but because I know Toshiba is at the top of the heap for quality. I just need my gateway back to I can sell it.

computer problems? after letting a friend of a friend fix my computer, i am still having problems. i live out in the sticks so there is no one in my yellow pages for computer repair(sad but true). should i drive the 5hour round trip to a best buy to let the geek squad fix it, or just cough it up and buy a new one? from what i have read about the geek squad and the price of gas i really don't know which would be worth it.
