How to fix a minor computer problem?

I am trying to fix my little brother's HP computer and I am not sure what the hell he did to it but it doesn't even power on. I had thought it was because of the A/C power cord but I tried several of them and they didn't work. I noticed that when I inserted the cord into the computer power socket, a green light on the outside, almost right next to the socket goes on and off when it has power so I am not quite sure what the problem is. I checked the inside of the CPU and nothing is unplugged, well wires that I know are not supposed to be plugged in aren't and the ones that are supposed to, are. If anyone can help, please answer back so I can try several solutions to my problem. Like I said, when I insert and pull out the plug from the socket, not the wall socket, the computer power socket, the green light goes on then immediately turns off. I press the power button and nothing happens, please help!

  1. Bad power supply..... if under warranty, call it in.
  2. Try again in 24 hours. See if that helps. Once in awhile, things just work out like that. Sounds like what the first answer was though - a bad power unit.
  3. Check the power supply box while plugging in the cord to the computer. If the fan does not spin up in the power supply, you probably have a bad power supply. There should also be a little bulb on the motherboard, if it is not on, then you are not getting any power to the motherboard. Which again is pointing to a bad power supply. You can also go to HP.COM and search there for the answer. Hope this is helpful.
