Can I uninstall Windows Vista and install Windows XP instead on my new laptop without any problems?

Windows Vista seems slower with all the security add ons. I like Windows XP instead. So if I uninstall Vista will it cause problems on my new laptop? I suppose I could add more memory but I still like Windows XP better.

  1. If you have windows xp installation disk then boot up with floppy or CD and type a:\ format c:/s press enter and follow to the end of format. now your computer is clean, insert windows xp disk and follow the installation to the end.
  2. I dont know why you would want to uninstall Vista. XP is inferier to Vista in every category. I have Vista and i feel it is clearly better the XP. You should reconsider. Vista will be better in the long run.
  3. I recently switched from Vista back to XP; whoever says that it is a easy process hasn't done it yet. I have, and I recommend that you don't, at least not yet. Everything works in XP, except for sound, because the soundcard on my laptop is a Sigmatel 9250... and no one makes audio drivers for it yet. So, be patient.
  4. If perform a clean installation of Windows Vista on a hard disk partition that contains an existing Microsoft Windows installation. If you do not format the hard disk, all the following items will be saved automatically in the Windows.OLD folder after Windows Vista is installed: • The previous operating system • User data • Program files If the Windows.OLD folder exists on this drive, files from the previous Windows installation are saved during the Windows Vista installation process. Therefore, you can restore the computer to the previous Windows installation.
